Featured Boat of the Month
Our featured boat of the month is Boss Lady.  Sue and Jim Shilling own Boss Lady.  They offer a great example of what happens when a design engineer meets up with a logistical whiz.  Jim designs and implements and Sue makes sure everything that needs to be done gets done.  It is a beautiful boat owned by two, very special people.

President's Luncheon
Twenty-five Carver Owners Club members and guests cleared security and went on a tour of the Battleship New Jersey on Saturday March 1.  I can truthfully say that excessive heat was not a problem on the tour.  What was supposed to be a 30 minute walk through the battleship still undergoing restoration turned into a three+ hour walkthrough of the ship.  We've received several favorable comments about the lunch and tour.  Our president, Rich Barnum commented that the New Jersey was much like our boats, with some differences in scale.  For example, it takes Rich about 340 gallons to fill his tanks.  The New Jersey takes on about 2 million gallons to fill its tanks.  Rich has an Orion 12-gauge flare pistol and the New Jersey has cannon, machine guns, cruise missiles and anti-aircraft guns. Whippoorwill Bay sleeps 8 and the New Jersey can hold about 3,500 troops.

Looking for a Few Good Couples
We need local coordinators for the following areas:

  • Both coasts of Florida
  • Upstate New York
  • Cleveland
  • Chicago
  • Houston
  • Southern California
  • Northern California
  • Chesapeake Bay

Unless we have local coordinators in an area, we cannot sponsor a Rendezvous near that area.

The local coordinators recommend a place, suggest where we should advertise, ask the local Carver dealers to help out, and let us ship them goodies as rendezvous hand outs.  Our cost structures do not permit compensation, other than having your registration fees waived.  Please contact me at 610-358-0626.  We must act fast to schedule events for this summer.

We also need Moderators for the Boat Talk discussion groups.  If you are interested in monitoring and providing information to the Boat Talk discussions, please let Sue Shilling know at answerlady@carverownersclub.com

Discounted Products
The Club is now offering discounted products on the web site as a way to increase the value of your membership and keep our costs down.  For example, we are offering Raritan supplies at a price that, if you buy two cases of chemicals a year, would more than pay for your annual membership fees in savings.  We are also looking at adding a product called Roll Off.  The manufacturer requires that we purchase 50 cases at a time to receive a reasonable price.  If you have an interest in buying either the Raritan products or Roll Off, please contact me, webdude@carverownersclub.com   Thanks.

Featured Boat
This is a new item in each monthly newsletter.  Boats are featured that show unusual or innovative uses, decorating ideas, or cruises.  Submit your boat to be featured by contacting Events@carverownersclub.com

Chesapeake Bay Rendezvous
We received several requests to move the annual Rendezvous from Baltimore to either Cambridge or Solomons.  We talked to the Cambridge Hyatt.  The cost per boat at Cambridge would have been about $500 per boat, with the club sponsors picking up about $100.  That would be about twice the price of last year's rendezvous.  We also talked to two marinas in Solomons.  With 50 or so boats, it would have taken two marinas.  We decided not to go to Solomons because of the expected costs of fuel.  We expect fuel costs to be in the $2.50 per gallon range for the early summer.

My thanks to Dave and Lois and Carol for helping us with the Cambridge location.  I am disappointed that it didn't work out this year.

Non-Sponsored Events
We've received several notices of upcoming events to be passed along.  Please remember that these are not club sponsored events. For more information please contact events@carverownersclub.com

Family Album Photo Updates
Please send me your updated boat and owners photos for the Family Album.  While space limits us to one photo for each boat and owner group, you can change the photo from time to time.  (Not weekly, please).

Boats For Sale Listings
Contact me when you need to update the information on the boats for sale listings.  I don't have an easy way for members to update their own listings, just notify me of any changes.  Especially, please let me know when the boat sells.  Thanks.
