Several members sent in some web sites that you may find interesting. This update is pretty important for GPS or chart plotter users:
The following
update is from Raymarine, which got me to thinking that there are many
other GPS units out there (regardless of manufacture) that may also
need an upgrade. Even though this only affects WAAS GPS, it might be
worth mentioning as this would be a good time for owners to check for
firmware updates. (And yes, I did upgrade my firmware.)

Dear
Raymarine C-Series or E-Series Owner,
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recently decommissioned two WAAS GPS satellites (PRN 122 and PRN 134), and the activated two replacement satellites (PRN 135 and PRN 138). The WAAS firmware in certain Raymarine products does not recognize satellites 135 or 138. All of the Raymarine products affected continue to receive the standard GPS signals and therefore are safe for navigation. Click here for additional information on this topic on http://www.Raymarine.com.We are pleased to release a software update for Raymarine C-Series (C70, C80, C120) and E-Series (E80, E120) Multifunction Displays that restores the ability for their connected Raystar GPS sensors to detect, track and utilize the new WAAS PRN 135 and 138 satellites. Now for some fun links: http://www.cruisingguide.com/ is a site for cruising boats all along the southeast US coast. Many of the comments are from boaters, rather than from editors. That makes the site more believable to me. This web site appears to be a part of http://www.cruisersnet.net. http://www.atlintracoastal.org is a web site dedicated to cruising the southeast ICW. I didn't find a lot of timely information on this site, but it is always interesting to see different sources of information. http://www.activecaptain.com/ This is an excellent site in that you can enter a location and it provides the services and ratings for boating related activities nearby. You join by providing information and receiving an email that lets you know you're in. Again, the boaters appear to write the reviews of the different service providers and locations and that's very helpful.

If you are looking for a long-life alternative for some Sherwood impellers, you may find this web site interesting. http://sbmar.com/Products/Impellers.cfm. I don't know the whole story, but apparently this guy got tired of replacing the rubber impellers and developed a silicone based impellers. The result is good performance over a longer life.

Featured Boats We have two featured boats this month. The first one is in Arkansas. It's a dual helm, 355 Aft Cabin. It's listed on the club web site at http://www.carverownersclub.com/boatSales/detail.php?boatAd=256. Click here to see the photo of the lower helm station. This is a great boat for a Great Loop trip. The second boat is a refitted dinghy or just a fun boat to jet around in. The boat is very fast (40 + mph) and has low hours. The trailer does not go with the boat, but it can be transported within a reasonable distance. The price is $11,500. Click here to see the photos.

Robert Janger's Article Robert assures me that the outstanding warrants against him have, for the most part, expired. To read his article on Stalking the Wild ICW Cruisers, click here.

Here are the events we've planned so far:
I am receiving Event ideas for the new year. While plans are still being completed, we have at least one event planned for each month from January to July next year. In Florida, we are planning a Saturday Night Out for the Stuart area in February, probably around Valentine's Day. Again, if you are interested in hosting an event, let me know. We have begun planning the 2008 Chesapeake Bay Rendezvous. Again, we'll have more information soon.

You may notice a new look for the web site in the next few weeks. The web site is being extensively reworked. I'm planning to add some new features that will continue to add value to your membership. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. If you forget your username or password, that can now be automatically sent to you from the web site. More specifically, it will be emailed to the email we have on file for you. If that email has expired, the automated feature will not work. It's helpful if you keep your email address up-to-date on the club records.
