Hello Dolly

Hello Dolly is a 36" Carver Mariner.  It is owned by Paul Slazas and Lori.  They keep the boat on the Hudson River, just south of Albany at the Ravena-Coeymans Yacht Club, www.rcyc.net

Here is a photo of the boat on the Hudson.

Paul, pictured above, works as Sales Manager at MTI Instruments, www.mtiinstruments.com, Albany NY. MTI makes precision laser and fiber optic instrumentation for measurement of distances down to the micro-inch level. Lori, pictured above,  works in the cafeteria at the Ichabod Crane school in Valatie, NY.  Paul and Lori, attended the Chesapeake Bay Rendezvous the last two years.  This past year, they were joined by her son Steve.  The boat's name was suggested by one of our boat club members who said to us "how about Hello Dolly" since that is what Lori uses whenever she greets people.
Paul and Lori love the new boat and hope to be able to take a trip up the Champlain Canal (north of Albany) and perhaps the Erie Canal, which is west of Albany.  They also are active in their boat club While Steve has some challenges, he is a volunteer firemen in Stottville, our local town and works full-time in a local workshop.

We have found that being a member of a boat club has introduced us to many new friends and the club environment is one in which everyone pitches in to help. Our club puts on 3 big events during the year. The Last event, the Chicken Roast in mid -September we had over 70 boats from other neighboring clubs.

The last weekend in October will be a sad one for all of out club members as it is Docks Out weekend.  Everyone must attend this work detail and we usually finish up by Sunday am.  The ladies in the club then prepare a nice meal.  After the docks are taken out and stored on land, the riverfront looks so bleak.

Everyone looks forward to Dock IN weekend which is the first week of April.

Also, I wanted to mention, that we had a boat Christening at our club for the new Carver. The ceremony was held at the boat club on a Saturday morning and was attended by about 12 people.  After the champagne, snacks were served and it was a fun event.

One of our club members suggested the christening after she saw the ceremony listed in the July 03 issue of Boating on the Hudson. www.boatingonthehudson.com
